Bali for families with kids — 10 days

Calm reef-protected beaches, a marine park, a world-class waterpark and a monkey forest — Bali works for kids aged 4-12. Here's how to do it without the meltdowns.

Duration
10 days
Best time
April–October (dry season)
Budget from
$1,410 per person
Direct flight
DPS

✓ Pros

  • +DPS is a genuine long-haul hub — non-stop from Singapore (2h40), Doha, Dubai, Sydney and Seoul
  • +Sanur and Nusa Dua sit behind a reef, so the water stays flat
  • +Bali Safari, Waterbom and Slingshot — the three attractions kids ask to repeat
  • +Grab rides are cheap — $5-8 even for a long cross-island run
  • +Balinese staff genuinely like children; nobody flinches at a toddler in a restaurant

⚠ What to keep in mind

  • !Almost everyone connects somewhere — book the shortest layover you can afford, small kids fall apart on long ones
  • !Rainy season runs November to March: beaches are a write-off, but rates drop hard
  • !Bali belly is real — bottled water only, including for brushing teeth

❓ Common questions

When is the best time to take kids to Bali?

The dry season, April to October: steady 28-30°C and very little rain. July and August are peak season and priced accordingly. May, June and September are the best compromise between weather and cost.

Do we need a visa for Bali?

Most passports — US, UK, EU, Canadian, Australian — get a visa on arrival for 30 days, $35 (IDR 500,000), or e-VOA online before you fly. It can be extended once for another 30 days.

What vaccinations should a child have before Bali?

None are mandatory, but hepatitis A, typhoid and tetanus are the usual recommendations. There is no malaria in the tourist areas.

Is it safe for kids to swim?

At Sanur and Nusa Dua, yes — reef-sheltered, calm water. NOT at Kuta, Seminyak or Canggu: big surf and dangerous rip currents.

How much money should we bring?

Around $2,000 per person for 10 days: flights ($600-900 depending where you start), hotels ($60-100 a night = $600-1,000), food ($25-40 a day), taxis and activities ($300-500). Premium versions start around $4,500 per person.
